The Episcopal Church ministry “Invite, Welcome, Connect” is a ministry of relational evangelism, allowing churches to become places of genuine connection and deeper journeys of Christian discipleship. It aligns well with St. Barnabas’ mission from the beginning; St. Barnabas’ Church is widely experienced to be a welcoming community of faith. However, our sanctuary does not always serve us well in supporting hospitality. The old organ, once a lovely instrument, is now barely playable. The carpet is worn, torn and stained. The narthex, through which most people enter the church, is dark and cave-like. There is no space that easily accommodates people in wheelchairs, or people with small children.
This Fall, St. Barnabas’ is launching its Capital Campaign to replace the organ with a Martin console installed with open source software from Hauptwerk, which is adaptable, versatile, and uses modern technology to produce amazing reproductions of world-class pipe organs. We will also be replacing the flooring throughout the Sanctuary, doing needed asbestos abatement of tiles, and reconfiguring the altar area to improve function and versatility and accommodate wheelchairs and create young child-friendly space.
