Outreach
St. Barnabas is a welcoming community of faith, fellowship, and service in which the Holy Spirit moves us to worship God and to proclaim and follow Jesus.
Caring for our Neighbors
“Jesus said, ‘And the second commandment is this, Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Caring for Family and Friends
“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”
Andrew’s Place
On the third Friday of each month, parishioners prepare, deliver, and serve a meal to 15-20 men at Andrew’s Place, a year-round shelter in downtown Wilmington serving homeless men. More help is needed!
Christmas Bazaar
Held in early December, the Christmas Bazaar is the parish’s largest annual outreach fundraiser. Included in the event is a large White Elephant sale, craft tables (we also welcome outside crafters!), clothing sale, bake sale and cookie walk, activities for children, and a visit from Santa. There are many ways to help with this important event.
Emmanuel Dining Room
The Emmanuel Dining Room in downtown Wilmington provides meals every day of the year at no cost to needy persons. St. Barnabas participates in this outreach by preparing one meal each month on the 15th of the month. On the 14th of each month, volunteers prepare a standard meal and deliver it to the Emmanuel Dining Room. Volunteers then serve the meal to up to 300 persons on the 15th of the month. Additional help is always needed to maintain this ministry. Click here to learn more about our ministry at Emmanuel Dining Room.
Episcopal Relief & Development
Episcopal Relief and Development provides emergency assistance and rehabilitative support to people affected by natural disasters, war, and civil strife. It also funds development projects around the world. Episcopal Relief and Development is the collective response of Episcopalians to help people in need in the United States, and around the world. St. Barnabas Church supports the mission of Episcopal Relief and Development by offering the opportunity to give.
Food Bank of Delaware
We support the Food Bank of Delaware through our regular Outreach budget and also hold seasonal food collections.
Meals on Wheels
A St. Barnabas team for Meals on Wheels Delaware provides meal delivery service one week out of every six.
Salvation Army Kettle Drive
Parish members participate in bell-ringing and kettle collections outside a local store during the Christmas season. The shifts are one hour long and often done in teams of two. Help is always welcome! Sign-ups for shifts are announced in the fall.
Wilmington Garden Day
Wilmington Garden Day is an annual Diocesan garden tour held on the first Saturday of May. Our parish staffs one of the gardens throughout the day. The Diocese contributes the proceeds of this event to St. Michael’s School and Nursery.
